Come visit me on Justin.tv!

Anime for the Elite on JTV

Lately I've been streaming anime over the internet for all to watch and converse. The nice thing about Justin.tv is that you can watch anime the same time as everyone else, and talk with everyone watching at the same time in a chat channel right next to the stream window! It's been alot of fun, and there are quite a few fans. So if you are bored and want to hang out and watch some random non-mainstream anime feel free to stop by! My broadcasts are fairly random, depending on my work schedule and other life commitments. I try to at least broadcast several times a week, usually in the evening, though don't be suprised if I'm broadcasting in the middle of the day. Your best chance of catching me broadcasting is on Thursdays and Fridays.

Box Set Trivia

Now this has been on the table for quite some time now, but just to be proper and prim about it I thought Id slap this one in here also. So the topic this time is the new policy that distributing companies in america are taking towards their artbox releases.

Foremost the biggest change comes from ADV films, that in all quietness has gone forth with its plan to reauthor their DVD's for complete collection boxsets, and one of the first titles to undergo this change was the low-volume fanservice fest Najica Blitz tactics. Reauthoring in this case means removing all extras. You don't even get the usual lot of ADV trailers.

Finnleo's take on Advent Children

Allrighty then, its on the streets, the allmighty Square enix production that almost everybody seems to have been
waiting for ever since the first trailers were braught to the public. So is it up to the hype thats been built around it?

Yes, and no..

Now I wont go fiddling around the plot, since nobody, exept people who have played the games will care about this.
Although, I have a strange feeling that Im the only one that hasnt... In anycase, lets just talk about the CG
shall we? Since thats what this thing is all about.

Man, time passes fast!

I've been soooo damn busy trying to catch up with life, and anime, and work, and family that I haven't done so much as update a single file on this page in over a year. This is mostly due to the fact that we lost Otaku.jp's original host servers. We currently have everything running on a professional host provided kindly by Kayosoni.

I have no intentions of ever abandoning this web page. I have many plans for it in the future. However right now is a fairly chaotic time for everyone, and we do have important work to do right now other than this page. The community is still up, our IRC servers are always up, and many of the older pages linked to this domain still remain.

When I get free time I am going to attempt to clean things up a bit and see where we stand with this current theme. I actually have several other layouts for this web site, but I had no intention of using any of them without a mascot. This sadly has fallen through at every turn, and instead of constantly shooting myself and the team in the foot, it would be better for now to just let it go.

OBB or Otaku.jp Forums are online and functional. There are some SQL tweaks we need to work on to get the search function working again. However we are getting bombarded nonstop everyday with sniffers trying to hack the forums. Thus we have turned off new user creation on the forums. If you would like to join our forums please send an e-mail to nails@otaku.jp and let me know so I can add you to the forums. If your account somehow got deleted, I am sorry, this is because we are trying to clean up all of the spam accounts created when the forum was previously hacked.

Last year we had our main support for this page fall extremely ill, the entire page and it's servers went down shortly after. Since then many of us have lost many of the tools we used to have available to keep this page going strong. When you have a successful forum and everything suddenly is shut down for almost half a year people tend to not come back. That is basically where the page stands now, so don't give up hope or anything. I have so many great friends backing this project and giving host support that we won't be going anywhere for a long time.

I would like to note that our great leader Chipr is doing much better, he has been enjoying diving, and shooting at random inanimate objects. .

We're back (again)

Our problems have essentially been sorted out, and we're back. Please note that there is a gap in the database, so if you signed up for a forum account during that gap, you may no longer be in the system. If you have any problems, please email us at forum@otaku.jp and we will take care of it.

In addition, we have added an Otaku.jp IRC channel. Go to the forums and click on "Chat Room", or simply logon to irc.otaku.jp and enter the #otaku channel (see
this thread for more information). Let's all be nice in there, and be patient. We're idle-happy, but we'll talk eventually. In the meantime, you can talk amongst yourselves.

Katsucon licenses

Media Blasters has acquired Genshiken (and most likely Kujibiki Unbalance), Ah My Goddess! TV, Hi No Tori, Grenadier, and Phantom OVA, along with the live-action Kekko Kamen movie (the new one).

New licenses

Naruto has been acquired by Sho Pro. Though not technically a license, Sho Pro is merging with Viz, making it likely to be a Viz release in the near future. Meanwhile, Cartoon Network has announced that they have the broadcast rights. It will air sometime in the late summer. Also, Geneon has acquired DearS.

Live-Action Kiki's Delivery Service

Oh, horror of horrors. Disney is throwing their hat into the dreaded ring of live-action anime by producing an upcoming live-action version of Kiki's Delivery Service. To be fair, they are basing it on the same books that Miyazaki used as inspiration, rather than the actual film. And yet, I still can't help but shudder when I think of Disney's recent kid-oriented live-action films.

Innocence to be fixed

For those of you who were paying attention (or purchased it), the Dreamworks release of Ghost in the Shell: Innocence had no English subtitle option; just the closed captioning, which can get quite annoying. However, enough people complained about it to force Dreamworks' hand. They will be remastering the DVD with an English subtitle option. Remastered discs will have a "v4" on the spine. See, complaining does work.

We're back! (sort of)

Yes, surprise of surprises, we are back online. Please be patient as we work out any bugs in the forums. Look for some big changes in the next few months. Thanks, Kayosoni, for helping us get back. News updates will commence soon.
